Mr. Martha has over 14 years of operations, maintenance, and management
experience in non-ferrous metal production and heavy manufacturing industries.
Mr. Martha’s 14 years have been spent in various management positions
with US Steel in its Mon Valley Works Facility. A significant portion
of Mr. Martha’s operating experience is in the area of facility
start-ups, which encompasses the development of equipment specifications,
manning requirements, training needs, operating and maintenance practices,
and commissioning plans.
Mr. Martha currently oversees 50 third party processors, 14 warehouses,
and is responsible for expenditures by US Steel in excess of $65 million
per year as Plant Manager of Processed Products, Mon Valley Works.
Mr. Martha is also responsible for insuring that these processors
and warehouse facilities meet the needs of US Steel’s customers
in terms of cost, quality, and customer service. Mr. Martha led the
restructuring of the Fairless Processed Products Division under Mon
Valley Works. As a result, Mon Valley Works is now the only plant
in US Steel to participate in the three major industries of Automotive,
Appliance and Construction Building Products.
Mr. Martha has experience and expertise in Continuous Casting, Hot
Strip Mills and Continuos Pickling. From 1997 to 2000, Mr. Martha
was Senior Process Leader of the Continuos Pickling Department covering
both operations and maintenance. He was responsible for 165 bargaining
unit (union) employees, 10 managers, and an operating budget in excess
of $50 million per year. Mr. Martha’s main focus was in the
continuos improvement of safety, quality, cost, customer service,
and environmental concerns. During his tenure as Manager of Continuous
Pickling, Mr. Martha improved the safety performance of his unit by
25%, experienced zero environmental incidents, reduced labor by 15%,
and increased productivity by 20%, which eliminated the pickling operation
as the bottleneck in the Mon Valley Works and generated greater efficiency
throughout the factory. Mr. Martha has working knowledge of SPC (Statistical
Process Control) as well as ISO-9002 and QS-9000 certifications.
Mr. Martha earned his BS degree in Industrial Engineering from Lehigh
University and is currently working on his MS in Manufacturing Management
from Kettering University.
